Don Cavallo headed to Pacific Classic
By: SPORTS NETWORK
Del Mar, CA (Sports Network) - Woodbine-based Don Cavallo has been confirmed to start in the $1 million Pacific Classic at Del Mar. The 1 1/4-miles stakes is set for Sunday, August 28.
Owned by Stronach Stables, Don Cavallo won the Dominion Day Stakes on July 1 at Woodbine by almost four-lengths. Finishing third was another Pacific Classic entrant Stately Victor. The Classic and Dominion Day are both run on Polytrack surfaces.
"We sort of feel he might be better on the Polytrack," trainer Roger Attfield said from Woodbine. "I hope (Del Mar) is similar to here, but I'm not sure about it. He has really developed over the last six months and is probably the best he's ever been. He's gradually improved mentally and physically."
The four-year-old has five career wins in 13 starts for $291,785. Ridden by Luis Contreras, Don Cavallo was second earlier in the spring in the Eclipse Stakes at Woodbine.
