Rapid Redux equals all-time win streak

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Laurel, MD (Sports Network) - Five-year-old thoroughbred Rapid Redux posted his 19th consecutive win Thursday equaling a record held by two other horses. The gelding matched 2010 Horse of the year Zenyatta and Peppers Pride with the victory.

Owned by Robert Cole, Rapid Redux defeated four rivals in the $20,000 starter allowance at seven-furlongs. With J.D. Acosta in the saddle Rapid Redux went off as the 1-5 favorite and covered the distance in 1:24.07 over a muddy Laurel Park track.

Leading wire-to-wire Rapid Redux posted a 2 3/4-length win over 4-1 second choice Rich Hero. Shordawatyadrink finished third followed by Cooper County and Noah's Dream.

Trained by David Wells, the gelding is perfect in 17 starts this year, two away from equaling Citation's single season mark of 19 victories in one year. This year he has earnings of $193,209.

Since being claimed by Cole at Penn National last October, Rapid Redux has won 20 of 21 races. His lifetime bankroll now stands at $332,544 with 25 wins in 39 starts.
