Race order finalized for 28th Breeders' Cup

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Louisville, KY (Sports Network) - The official order of this year's Breeders' Cup races has been finalized. A change in the second day of the 15-race World Championships was made to accentuate fan interest.

"Due to the heightened international interest in Goldikova's quest for an unprecedented fourth consecutive TVG Breeders' Cup Mile, we believe that moving the Mile to later in Saturday's program will provide a fitting tribute to this extraordinary challenge," said Craig Fravel, president and CEO of Breeders' Cup Ltd. "Given the Triple Crown implications of the Grey Goose Breeders' Cup Juvenile, we also believe that placing this race later in the program puts the spotlight on next year's potential stars going into their three-year-old campaigns."

Saturday's Breeders' Cup races begin with the Marathon, followed by the Juvenile Turf, Sprint, Turf Sprint, Dirt Mile, Turf, Juvenile, Mile, and Classic.

The first day's order remains as earlier announced: Juvenile Sprint, Juvenile Fillies Turf, Filly & Mare Sprint, Juvenile Fillies, Filly & Mare Turf, and the Ladies' Classic.

The two-day Breeders' Cup will be held on November 4-5 at Churchill Downs, and for the first time will have 15 races worth $26 million. This will be the second straight year that Churchill Downs will host the event.
