Fever knocks out Medaglia d'Amour

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Louisville, KY (Sports Network) - Longshot mare Medaglia d'Amour has been scratched from Friday's Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic with a fever. Trainer Ben Cecil made the decision Thursday morning.

"We scratched her this morning because she had a 102 temperature. She coughed a couple of times, too, so we can't run her like that," said Cecil.

Medaglia d'Amour was 30-1 in the morning-line for the 1 1/8-mile Ladies' Classic. Owned by Kristina Cecil and Zillah Reddam, the five-year-old had drawn post nine in the 10-horse field.

She was winless in three starts this year all on turf. The mare has a career mark of three wins in seven starts for $146,200.
