Uncle Mo retired from racing

Elmont, NY (Sports Network) - Eclipse Award winning colt Uncle Mo has been retired from racing with a recurrence of a medical condition. The three-year- old's owner Mike Repole made the announcement on Monday.

Uncle Mo, who finished 10th in Saturday's Breeders' Cup Classic, was found to have an elevated enzyme level after blood tests were taken Sunday. It is the same problem that forced the winner of the 2010 Breeders' Cup Juvenile to be scratched from this year's Kentucky Derby and miss the remaining Triple Crown races.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, Uncle Mo was unbeaten in three starts last year and was voted champion two-year-old colt. After winning his initial 2011 start, he was third in the Wood Memorial and was entered in the Kentucky Derby. Uncle Mo was scratched the day before the Run for the Roses with what was believed to be an intestinal problem. It was later discovered the colt had a liver disease.

In his first start back, he finished second in the King's Bishop at Saratoga. Uncle Mo won the Kelso Stakes at Belmont Park on October 1 in convincing style for the three-year-old's first win since the Timely Writer Stakes early this year at Gulfstream Park.
