Shirreffs to train Morning Line

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Inglewood, CA (Sports Network) - Highly regarded colt Morning Line has been transferred to the stable of trainer John Shirreffs. The four-year-old is now part of Shirreffs' string at Hollywood Park.

Morning Line, winner of the 2010 Pennsylvania Derby, had been based on the east coast with trainer Nick Zito. The colt posted just one victory this year in the Carter Handicap at Aqueduct back in April. In five starts he earned $267,500 with a second in the Donn Handicap and a third in the Hal's Hope.

Following his Carter win he was fifth in the Salvator Mile at Monmouth Park and was last in the Whitney at Saratoga. He underwent surgery to remove bone chips from both knees in August.

For the 2010 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile the colt was the 7-2 program favorite. After disputing the pace and taking the lead on the final turn Morning Line lost by a head to Dakota Phone.

In 12 career starts the four-year-old has four wins for more than $1.1 million.
