HORSES TO WATCH

By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB

TAMPA BAY DOWNS

CONSOLACION SUR: Five year old mare shipped in from Calder to make her first start over this track, raced near the back of the pack early on behind moderate splits, made a middle move while down inside and finished up well for third beaten less than two lengths, like her chances next out.

GLASS BOTTLE: Four year old filly made her debut last out against $50k maiden claimers, sent off at 5-1 in a four horse field, she broke awkwardly, quickly moved up to get into contention but couldn’t get by the wire to wire winning 6-5 favorite in a solid time, will be very tough next out even with a bump in class.

DARK CLOUD DANCER: Five year old shipped in from Woodbine for his last start, was up close early on, moved to challenge the leaders approaching the ¾ mark but couldn’t sustain that run and hung late to finish a good third, improves a ton off that effort and will be very tough next out.

RYVIT: Was making just his second start off a 16-month layoff last out, raced well behind a sharp early pace after some traffic into the first turn, made up some ground late to finish fifth as the favorite and probably wants more ground, next time.

JOE’S DOUBLEDANNDI: Was bumped and shuffled back into the turn losing valuable position, angled to the outside and ran on late to finish third, should improve in her second start off a September layoff and fits with $8k maiden claimers right back.

BEST BET: CREDIT VOUCHER: Shipped in from Calder after three career starts over that track, didn’t get the best of starts and had to try and close from off the pace, was in between horses at the top of the lane and ran a credible fourth at 32-1, fits at this level and the price will be right next out.

LONGSHOT: VIV’S TIARA: Chased the early leader last out over the turf versus NW2L $25k claimers, was still there into the lane but couldn’t get by the leader and tired late to finish third at 11-1; is a perfect fit at this level and broke her maiden over this course, stay close.

OAKLAWN

CORN DOG: Six year old gelding broke his maiden over this track back in January of 2010, has been off since August but is working his way back to the races so give him a shot at a price.

MAC DEHERE: Hard hitting five year old has four wins from 15 starts and has run well over this track in the past, hails from solid barn and looks ready to roll of the works.

TWIST: Well bred runner has shown some flashes of ability but has been off form of late with two poor efforts in her last two starts, she was given a break after her May effort and may come out running at a price after the layoff, respect.

BONAROO: Just missed by a nose last out at Churchill downs in late November and has been working well for a return to the races here at Oaklawn, follow.

STREETFIRE: Well bred four year old by Street Cry out of the mare Fleet Renee, was dropped into a restricted claimer last out but does hail from the Asmussen barn which always makes him dangerous, follow to the windows.

DUCA: Another well-bred runner from the Lukas barn who has been in over his head, a drop in class should do him well and he must be respected right away.

BEST BET: PACAR: Hard hitting six year old gelding knows how to win with 6 wins from 31 starts, shows a solid win here last year over $5k claimers and heads into this meeting in solid form, follow this one to the windows in current form.

LONGSHOT: TEENAGER IN LOVE: Five year old gelding has been off since September after finishing up the track at Louisiana downs over the turf, a move back to the dirt against NW3L claimers makes him one to watch right back.
