HORSES TO WATCH

By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB

GULFSTREAM PARK

MARQUET CAT: Has moved his way up through the ranks quite nicely since switching hands for $25k over the summer, but trying him in a stakes race was a bit too much. Gets back on track in a more reasonable spot.

PLEASANT HYMN: Handles both surfaces and is well-placed at the $25k maiden claiming offering. Graduation day is coming soon.

SILVERETTE: Bet to win in her debut, the daughter of Street Sense led through fast splits before getting tagged late. Goes one better for top outfit.

TOM KITTEN: Kitten’s Joy gelding very rarely finishes out of the money. Key him in the exotics and you won’t be disappointed.

WHISPER ONTHE WIND: Reported home a solid fourth at 21-1 after encountering some trouble at the start in his first attempt going long. Spread the word.

ZUBER: Form went the wrong way in the fall, but appears to be heading in the right direction following a strong third at 73-1. Take a closer look.

BEST BET: DRACUP: Has done very little wrong in three career attempts over the turf course at Gulfstream Park, including a debut win at 23-1 last term. Moving on up for the Lisa Lewis barn.

LONGSHOT: PRECEDENT:  Woke up with a rallying third-place finish at 95-1 after posting a handful of dismal efforts. Smart money says she can do it again.

GOLDEN GATE

DECKACARDS: Couldn’t get out of his own way in a pair of grass attempts, but has really turned things around since switching to Golden Gate’s all-weather course with two in-the-money finishes. Holding a winning hand.

GLOBAL GLOW: Responded well to a little time on the shelf with a third-place finish at 9-1. Playable over either strip here.

LADY’S PLAN: Took seven starts to graduate, but has really begun to develop since leaving SoCal. Nearly pulled it off at 36-1 in her first attempt versus winners; trust us folks, she’s for real.

NINER GENIUS: Consistent gelding can get it done over either surface and got back on track with an overdue win in latest. Can put them back to back.

OURWESTCOASTGHOST: Really has a thing for photo finishes, apparently. Got the money by a neck at 11-1 in his debut, then came up a head short in his first allowance test; hard not to like this guy.

TRAPPERS MAGIC: Followed a well-beaten seventh in her debut going short with a much-improved second when stretched to a mile. On the improve for Morey barn.

WHISKERS AND RYE: SoCal reject flashed some life in her second local attempt, completing the trifecta at 30-1. Worth including at right number.

ZAREE: Outran her 17-1 debut odds with a better-than-it-looks fourth-place finish at 17-1. Hoping they overlook this filly one more time.

BEST BET: HALO DOLLY: Just can’t see this filly getting beaten by anything on these grounds. Swallow the short price on one of Hollendorfer’s top guns.

LONGSHOT: TACARA MUCHO: Maiden of 10 starts has quietly been knocking on the door in her last three trips to post, including a recent third at 21-1. Very capable of lighting up the board versus $8k maiden claimers.
