HORSES TO WATCH
By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB
PIMLICO
ALL AMERICAN BLOND: Showed breakaway early speed when too eager early in latest, and tired
late to finish third as failed favorite; improving sort.
CAPOW: Took needed drop to MCL ranks most recently, and showed improvement when an even
fourth; expect more speed and a maiden win in the near future.
CRAFTY RUNNER: Brings back class, and although he does not hit winner’s circle as often as he
once did, he appears primed for breakout in third start of current form cycle.
CREDIT GAL: Had streak of four consecutive exacta finishes snapped when fifth in latest; note, she was
willing on class hike in latest, and remains razor sharp.
DA BIRDMAN: Was along in time to take latest by a nose when making first start off a brief
break; nets hat trick for winning barn next time.
IRISH IMP: Passed tired foes when trying to cope with wide post sprinting in latest; improving with
racing, and can fire best in third start of current form cycle next time.
JIM THE GENT: Love his early zip with $25K-tag types; route experience gained and pair of starts since
return from break can only help matters going forward.
POOFADINI: Battled pace wide and between foes on turn before giving way in improved effort most
recently; overdue to exit NW2L ranks.
SASSY HOUND: Scored off the bench in latest; 16-time career winner holds a strong hand in stakes sprints
around here.
SWINGING GATE: Chased and faded in route attempt when making first start since early-February; new face
in town benefits from race and return without another layoff line.
4STARSPECIAL: SUDDENLY DEVILISH: Had poor start and never got on track in latest, but typically brings plenty
of early zip to the equation; barn off to nice start in 2004 with limited runners.
LONGSHOT: KITE: Was away poorly, moved to contention, and faded in needed and useful career debut; added
distance wouldn’t hurt son of Gentlemen who goes for winning K. Voss barn.
LONE STAR
CHARGE AND SEND: Chased wide and rallied for second over sloppy track in strong effort most recently; too
sharp to ignore right now.
FINAL ATTACK: Lacked bid off ground-saving trip over muddy ground in latest, but can do better; has been
catching wet tracks too often lately, and doesn’t appear so fond of it.
GIRLS RULE: Stayed close to pace and willing throughout when fifth in latest sprint, when turning back from
route; sharper for next time.
MRS. ROBINSON: Showed needed and overdue improvement when third off class drop for latest;
maiden-breaker clearly on the horizon now.
SITA RAM: Brings early speed to claiming sprint or route scene – very important – and needs only a clear
shake to really show her best stuff.
SPECIAL MESSAGE: Took plenty of tote play for career debut, in what should prove a useful run – chased
inside and weakened over sloppy ground; next time.
SU TIEMPO: Has poor gate etiquette, but can improve upon sixth in return in which he middle-moved well to
contention; 8YO gelding had right to need return race.
ZIPPERFOOT: Fell behind early in hot-paced race most recently, but prior upset win was strong enough to keep
her on the radar screen; eight-time winner is hit or miss type these days.
4STARSPECIAL: WINNING LURE: Tried winners and route for the first time when returned from break for latest,
and held second after showing the way early; pedigree says turf for Asmussen family production.
LONGSHOT: SOUTHERN CHIPS: Overcame wide spot on first turn and put in prolonged run to be up in time for
nice maiden win in latest; right back versus winners.
