New Jersey Horsemen to lease Monmouth Park

Trenton, NJ (Sports Network) - Under terms of a lease signed by the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority (NJSEA) the New Jersey Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association (NJTHA) will operate Monmouth Park. The NJSEA signed the lease Thursday and a closing is expected by the first week in May 2012.

The lease follows an agreement that was reached between the NJSEA and NJTHA late last year that allowed Monmouth Park to have 141 days of racing during 2012. There will be no subsidies or enhancements to racing purses. Purses will be substantially reduced due to the loss of those monies.

Jeff Gural operates The Meadowlands under a 30-year contract.
