Bodemeister works at Churchill
By: SPORTS NETWORK
Louisville, KY (Sports Network) - Arkansas Derby winner Bodemeister took to the track at Churchill Downs Tuesday morning for a workout. The three-year-old colt is one of the favorites for the 138th Kentucky Derby on May 5.
Trained by Bob Baffert, Bodemeister worked five-furlongs in 1:00 4/5 with jockey Martin Garcia riding. The colt galloped out six-furlongs in 1:13.
"I liked the way he went this morning," Baffert said. "He likes this track. He just skipped over it. He is very fluid when he picks it up and just floats over the ground."
Baffert's other Derby horse, Liaison, galloped 1 1/2-miles over the Churchill track with George Alvarez in the saddle.
"I'm gonna run him (in the Derby)," Baffert said. "He was a different horse out there today. He was never comfortable at Santa Anita and just didn't like the track."
Liaison was sixth in the Santa Anita Derby and fourth in the San Felipe at Santa Anita Park.
