HORSES TO WATCH

By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB

BELMONT

BIG IN THE GAME: Had a useful debut when finishing an even fifth at seven furlongs. Should improve off that effort and will be

much better next out.

CONQUER THE DEVIL: Broke from a difficult post, raced close-up inside before tiring to seventh; a drop in class will help.

CONTEMPTUOUS: Chased the pace last out and the race prior and tired in the lane, a switch to the turf is waiting.

DOCTOR JALILI: Broke well from an outside post, was quickly clear but had to settle for the place spot behind the favorite. Speedy New

Yorker can lead gate to wire.

ELUSIVE PROJECT: Showed much improved speed when trying the turf for the first time and held fairly well to finish sixth. Can pop at a

big price over the lawn.

GOLD EXPLORER: Chased the pace early on and lasted until the stretch before tiring. Was always best on the turf when he could come

from off the pace, follow at a big price.

HEIR D’ TWINE: Closed some ground to finish third beaten by about 10 lengths. Needs some class relief and a switch to the turf may also

help the cause.

HOGAN’S SPIRIT: Stalked the leader, took over and scored by an easy five lengths but was taken down for an infraction in the stretch.

Was claimed that day and can score right back with similar.

MUMBLE JUMBLE: Was on the lead early, took back and then ran on well to finish third just missing by a half length, should improve with

that race under his belt.

PLEASANT HOME: Was an even fourth in her first career start but raced greenly throughout. Well bred filly will improve off that effort and

should be tough to beat next out.

RON GRESCHNER: May have been in over his head trying stakes company last out off his maiden win but he did finish a reasonable fifth.

A switch to the turf can also help.

ROUSING VICTORY: Was an even sixth last out from post 12 but looks like he may need more ground, tab.

STANDSWITHAFIST: Needed the race off the layoff and finished an even fourth. Should improve off that effort and fits with straight three

year olds.

SUPER FUSE: Has been facing off against short fields and has been up against it pace wise. A switch to Belmont and those large turns

should help this sprinter.

WESTERN DOLL: Ran an even fourth in her first try over the turf course from an outside post and should improve with a switch to

Belmont Park.

4PSPECIAL: WILD CEE: Chased a very quick pace, took over and held well in her first try versus older horses and her first try at

seven furlongs. Look for her to bounce back off that effort.

LONGSHOT: WILD MAPLE: Was too far back last out and then came with a very wide move finishing seventh while getting beat about five

lengths. Fits with $35k claimers on the turf.

PENN NATIONAL

ALLEN’S GOLDGORIAN: Battled on the lead and lasted until the stretch but had to settle for the place spot before being placed

first by DQ.

BEST CARD: Raced wide into the turn and got within a head of the lead before settling for third.

BRENDAN MAC: Stalked the heavy favorite and took over to score going away by almost two lengths against NW3L $10k claimers.

Repeats.

COPPER GLOW: Trailed the field early on before angling out and coming with a strong late run to score going away. Can move up and

score with better.

ELZABAD: Was quickly clear to the lead through swift fractions and drew off to score by more than eight lengths. Can move up to score

versus better.

HOLD THAT SMILE: Broke well, was right up there on the lead before settling for third behind the 4-5 winning favorite; right back with

$8k claimers.

NASHEBA DANCER: Closed from last to finish second behind the runaway favored winner; try right back with $5k claimers.

TOTHE CHASE: Chased the pace early on while racing in tight and had to settle for sixth. Calls on backclass with $3.5k claimers.

4PSPECIAL: DERBY BAY RALLY: Took on all challengers after breaking sharply from the rail and scored by more than three

lengths, tab.

LONGSHOT: TIMMY M’BOY: Trailed early on before coming late to finish third behind a runaway winner. A quicker pace up front can lead

to a better result.
