Went the Day Well through for 2012

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Elkton, MD (Sports Network) - Three-year-old colt Went the Day Well is injured and will not race the remainder of 2012. The decision was announced by co-owner Team Valor on Tuesday afternoon.

Trained by Graham Motion, Went the Day Well has bone bruising in his front ankles, but should recover and race as a four-year-old next year. He will recuperate at Motion's Fair Hill barn.

Went the Day Well, also owned by Mark Ford, won the Spiral Stakes on March 24 at Turfway Park to place him into the Kentucky Derby. The colt was 30-1 in the Run for the Roses, but finished fourth, fewer than three lengths behind winner I'll Have Another.

Two weeks later in the Preakness Stakes, he finished a disappointing 10th to I'll Have Another as the 5-1 third pick.

Went the Day Well won two of five starts this year for $411,985.
