Union Rags to stand at Lane's End
By: SPORTS NETWORK
Versailles, KY (Sports Network) - Retired Belmont Stakes winner Union Rags will begin his stallion career in 2013 at Lane's End Farm. The colt was retired last month as the result of a left front leg injury.
Owned by Chadds Ford Stable, Union Rags won the Belmont Stakes over Paynter by a neck in what proved to be his final start. Earlier in 2012 the colt won the Fountain of Youth Stakes but finished third in the Florida Derby.
Trained by Michael Matz, Union Rags was the 5-1 second choice in the Kentucky Derby but could do no better than seventh behind I'll Have Another.
The colt earned $1,798,800 in eight career starts with five wins.
