Trinniberg headed for Sprint

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Miami Gardens, FL (Sports Network) - Although coming off a disappointing King's Bishop at Saratoga, 3-year-old sprinter Trinniberg is still probable for November's Breeders' Cup Sprint at Santa Anita.

"That's still the plan," owner and trainer Shivananda Parbhoo said. "He'll have one more race before then, but I haven't put much thought into which one it will be. He's going to have to show me that he's ready for California. And when he does, we'll definitely be going."

Trinniberg, ridden by Willie Martinez, finished ninth in the 10 horse King's Bishop field on Aug. 25. Sent off as the 5-2 second choice, the 3-year-old set the pace until the stretch in the seven-furlong stakes.

"I'm still confused about what happened that day," Parbhoo said. "I know that in this game you are going to lose races, but it's frustrating because it happened in one of the bigger races we had pointed for and it doesn't appear that anything was wrong with him. I had him checked out over and over again, and nothing was wrong. Even today, after the breeze, we had the vet look him over completely, and he appears to be as good as ever."

Trinniberg had a half-mile workout Wednesday at Calder Race Course, covering the four-furlongs in 47 seconds over a track listed as wet fast.

This year the colt won the Swale and Bay Shore Stakes before setting the pace but fading to 17th in the Kentucky Derby. He came back to win the Woody Stephens Stakes and finish second in Calder's Carry Back Stakes.
