Breeders' Cup Juvenile next for Champagne champ

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Champagne Stakes winner Shanghai Bobby will make his next start in the $2 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Santa Anita on Saturday, Nov. 3.

The 2-year-old colt is owned by Starlight Racing and trained by Todd Pletcher.

"Todd and I discussed our options this morning," said Starlight Racing's managing partner Jack Wolf. "The colt came out of the race in great shape and has given us every indication that he belongs. He's done everything that's been asked of him and more. We are very excited for our partners and team and feel fortunate to have such a talented colt headed to the World Championships."

Shanghai Bobby, ridden by Rosie Napravnik, defeated five rivals by five lengths in the mile stakes at Belmont Park on Saturday. Undefeated in five starts, the colt was the 8-5 favorite in the Champagne and has earned $607,000.

Saturday's win earned him an automatic spot in the Juvenile and also gave him 10 points in the new points-based system toward a start in the 2013 Kentucky Derby.

Two years ago Uncle Mo won both the Champagne and Juvenile.
