Great Attack set for Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Lexington, KY (Sports Network) - Trainer Wesley Ward had 5-year-old Great Attack work Thursday morning at Keeneland in advance of the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint on Nov.3.

With Blake Shinn riding. Great Attack covered five-furlongs in 1:02.60 over Keeneland's turf course. Owned by Houyhnhnm Stable, the 5-year-old has not started since winning the Twin Spires Turf Sprint at Churchill Downs on May 5.

"He was about ready to run in the Woodford (at Keeneland on Oct. 6) but our ultimate goal is the Breeders' Cup and I thought it best that we train him into it," Ward said. "I didn't want to send him to California because the turf is hard out there. This is really easy and kind on his feet and plus it's deeper so you get a lot more out of the work. I was really happy with it today."

Great Attack, fourth in last year's Turf Sprint, will be making his first start at Santa Anita in the Breeders' Cup race. In 17 career starts he has six wins and four seconds for $378,010.

The 5-year-old is scheduled to have another workout at Keeneland next week and head for California on Oct. 28.
