Race order finalized for 29th Breeders' Cup

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Arcadia, CA (Sports Network) - The official order of this year's Breeders' Cup races has been finalized. The two-day Breeders' Cup will be held on Nov. 2-3 at Santa Anita Park and for the second time will have 15 races worth $26 million. This will be the first of two straight years that Santa Anita will host the event.

There were some changes from the tentative schedule for the second day that was announced earlier this month, The Dirt Mile (formerly race 8) will go off as the sixth race, the Breeders' Cup Juvenile (formerly race 10) will now be run as the eighth race and the Breeders' Cup Sprint (formerly race 6) will be run as the 10th race on the program.

"With the Sprint drawing a large and talented field this year, we thought it would be best for our fans to bolster the latter portion of Saturday's card by placing it in third to last position, preceding the Mile and the Classic," said Bob Elliston, Breeders' Cup Chief Operating Officer. "Closing Saturday's card with the Turf, Sprint, Mile and Classic should reward the sharp handicapper with big value returns."

Saturday's Breeders' Cup races begin with the Juvenile Turf, followed by the Filly & Mare Sprint, Dirt Mile, Turf Sprint, Juvenile, Turf, Sprint, Mile, and Classic.

The first day's order remains as earlier announced: Juvenile Sprint, Marathon, Juvenile Fillies Turf, Juvenile Fillies, Filly & Mare Turf, and Ladies' Classic.
