By: SPORTS NETWORK
Elkton, MD (Sports Network) - Summer Soiree, owned by Team Valor, has been retired from racing and will be sent to the breeding barn. The 4-year-old filly was trained by Graham Motion.
Winner of the 2011 Del Mar Oaks, Summer Soiree finished her racing career with a third-place result in last Sunday's Matriarch Stakes at Hollywood Park, a race in which she was second last year.
Summer Soiree won four of her first five starts as a 3-year-old in 2011, picking up wins in an allowance race followed by the Bourbonette Oaks, Boiling Springs Stakes and Del Mar Oaks. After the Bourbonette she finished 10th to Plum Pretty in the Kentucky Oaks.
The 4-year-old was winless in three starts this season getting a third in the Ballston Spa Stakes and a fourth in the First Lady Stakes prior to the Matriarch.
In 16 career starts the filly posted five wins for $506,180.
Summer Soiree will be bred to 2002 Travers and Jim Dandy winner Medaglia d'Oro. Team Valor plans to offer the filly in foal at public auction next November.
