Turf workout for Animal Kingdom

Hallandale Beach, FL (Sports Network) - In preparation for next month's season debut, 2011 Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom had a workout Monday at Palm Meadows Training Center near Gulfstream Park.

Trainer Graham Motion had Animal Kingdom work five-furlongs on the turf ahead of the $300,000 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap on Feb. 9. The 5-year-old covered the distance in 1:02. It was the fastest time of the day from among 17 horses working five-furlongs on the grass.

Owned by Team Valor, the 5-year-old horse has won four of nine career starts with four seconds for earnings of $2,327,500.
