Alabama Stakes winner Questing retired

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Lexington, KY (Sports Network) - Champion filly Questing has been retired and will be bred in the spring. Owner Godolphin Racing made the announcement Friday morning.

The 4-year-old filly won the Eclipse Award as champion 3-year-old filly of 2012. Trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, Questing won the Coaching Club American Oaks and Alabama.

"These Eclipse Awards by themselves are great to have, but when you know the competition you are keeping, it just adds to the stature and prestige of this really great award," Darley's Jimmy Bell said after accepting Questing's Eclipse Award. "We certainly want to congratulate Simon Crisford and all the Godolphin team, and particularly Kiaran McLaughlin for his professional and patient care and his workaholic staff. They do such a wonderful job."

In her final race she suffered an eye injury during the running of the Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic. This winter she underwent surgery for a hind ankle chip, but during her recovery developed a case of pneumonia.

Questing finished her career with four wins in 11 starts for $876,876.

She will be bred to 2006 Preakness champ and Eclipse Award winner Bernardini.
