Zito's three-year-old takes Delaware stakes race

By: Sports Network

Stanton, DE (Sports Network) - Belmont Stakes winning trainer Nick Zito sent out Pies Prospect Tuesday to capture the $55,000 The Floor Show Stakes at Delaware Park. The minor stakes race attracted a field of eight runners.

Pies Prospect is owned by Robert LaPenta, who also owns The Cliff's Edge. The Cliff's Edge won this year's Blue Grass Stakes and was the morning-line favorite for the Kentucky Derby. Pies Prospect was also on the Triple Crown trail until he finished off the board in the Rushaway Stakes in March.

In Tuesday's race, the pace was set by morning-line favorite Sinister G, the winner of the Lane's End Stakes this year. Running a close second was Minnamana, with the rest of the field a couple of lengths back.

Around the turn for home Pies Prospect raced three wide to join Sinister G on the lead. At the top of the stretch jockey Norberto Arroyo guided Pies Prospect to a comfortable advantage. At the wire Pies Prospect finished 5 1/2 lengths in front of Gmork, with Zakocity finishing third. Local favorite Gadace's Khamseh was fourth.

Sinister G faded to sixth and another Zito horse, Broadway View, was seventh.

The time for the 1 1/16 miles was 1:43.93.

Pies Prospect returned $5.60, $3.80 and $2.60. Gmork paid $14.60 and $6.20, and Zakocity paid $3.80 for show.
