Wise Dan to return in Keeneland stakes

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Lexington, KY (Sports Network) - Reigning Horse of the Year Wise Dan is set to make his 2013 debut next Friday in the $300,000 Maker's 46 Mile at Keeneland. The 6-year-old gelding had his final workout for the mile turf race on Thursday.

"He worked well last week (1:12.40) and this work was about the same," trainer Charles Lopresti said. "He galloped out strong and he was out in the middle of the track. I don't see any reason why he wouldn't be good to go next week."

Wise Dan, ridden by regular exercise rider Damien Rock, went five furlongs in 1:00, galloped out six furlongs in 1:13 and seven furlongs in 1:27 over Keeneland's main track.

Owned by Morton Fink, the gelding won the Breeders' Cup Mile on Nov. 3 to close his successful 2012 season. After posting five wins and a second in six starts, Wise Dan was voted champion Older Male, Turf Male and Horse of the Year.
