By: SPORTS NETWORK
Wilmington, DE (Sports Network) - An agreement has been reached between Delaware Park and the Delaware Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association on a multi-year pact. The agreement, subject to enactment of legislation by the Delaware General Assembly, will allow Delaware Park to begin live racing on Saturday, May 18. The historic track, home to the Delaware Handicap, will have a 15-race $2.35 million stakes schedule this year with the Del 'Cap on Saturday, July 20. Royal Delta, 2011 champion 3-year-old filly, won the 2012 Del 'Cap on her way to winning her second straight Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic and the Eclipse Award as champion Older Female. Two year's ago Blind Luck defeated Havre de Grace in the 1 1/4-mile stakes. The Delaware Oaks for 3-year-old fillies will go off one week before the Del 'Cap. Last year's Oaks was won by Grace Hall, fourth in the Ladies' Classic, and in 2010 Blind Luck defeated Havre de Grace, Delaware Park will have 81 days of live racing through Monday, Oct. 7.
