Wise Dan debuts Friday in Maker's 46 Mile

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Lexington, KY (Sports Network) - Horse of the Year Wise Dan gets back to the races Friday in Keeneland's $300,000 Maker's 46 Mile on turf. The 6-year-old gelding will take on four challengers in the mile grass event.

Owned by Morton Fink, Wise Dan will start from the outside post with Jose Lezcano back in the saddle. The pair teamed up to win last October's Shadwell Mile at the Lexington track. The gelding's regular jockey, John Velazquez, is unavailable after suffering a fractured rib and chipped bone in his right wrist on Sunday at Aqueduct.

Trained by Charles Lopresti, the gelding won the Breeders' Cup Mile on Nov. 3 to close his successful 2012 season. After posting five wins and a second in six starts, Wise Dan was voted champion Older Male, Turf Male and Horse of the Year. With 13 wins in 20 lifetime starts the 6-year-old has banked better than $3.5 million

Here is the field for the Maker's 46 Mile from the rail out: Silentio, Rafael Bejarano; Mr. Commons, Corey Nakatani; Skyring, Rosie Napravnik; Data Link, Javier Castellano and Wise Dan, Jose Lezcano.
