Spill results in Velazquez injuries
By: SPORTS NETWORK
Ozone Park, NY (Sports Network) - Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez suffered some minor fractures Sunday when a horse he was riding fell. The 41-year-old rider was injured during Aqueduct's seventh race. Velazquez's valet Tony Millan said the jockey has a slight fracture of his first rib on the right side and a small bone chip near his right wrist. The veteran jockey was taken to North Shore University Hospital and will see Dr. Stephen O'Brien, his orthopedist, either Monday or Tuesday. "He'll follow up with his doctor this week and we'll know more," Millan said. "The good news is that these appear to be relatively minor injuries." Velazquez won Saturday's Wood Memorial at Aqueduct aboard Verrazano and is also the rider for Florida Derby champ Orb.
