HORSES TO WATCH

By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB

NO. CAL FAIRS

ALL THEE B: Closed well in both of her starts to finish fourth and second, respectively. On course for a victory if

she continues to move forward.

BUCK’ S SHAR: Turf Paradise invader is capable of better than she’s showed in her last two. Any type of moisture in the

track helps the cause.

BUCK’S BANNER: His two Stockton starts [fifth June 18 & sixth June 25] are better than they appear on paper. Get a price

and head to the windows.

COLONIAL RUN: Didn’t care much for the turf in his May 20 unveiling, but showed signs of improvement while fourth on the

dirt June 27. Headed in the right direction.

DAD’S DOUBLE: Flashed brief speed before tiring to finish fifth in first start since Apr. 1. Should be more fit for next time.

DROWN THE SORROWS: Has handled the next level very well considering she needed 11 starts to graduate. Gets the job

done at the bottom level.

GIN STAR: Blew the doors off in recent wire-to-wire Stockton tally. Can beat up on a similar $4k field again.

I AM A LIVERMORE: Ran a very solid third making his first start since September. Exits the maiden ranks if placed in

similar spot.

MARKET FACTORS: May have been ridden a bit too aggressive in her last two tries and tired in the final furlong. Benefits

from a more patient ride.

SILVERTONGUE FOX: Pressed the pace and stayed on for third second start off the vacation June 25. Onward

and upward.

SPRING BREEZE: Ran a career-best third first start off the layoff June 20, then regressed last out finishing sixth June 27. Can

bounce back at a price.

TOMATHAN: Dueled with four star special Smoking Lad in his debut and stayed on for second. Should be able to build off that

performance with a victory.

4STARSPECIAL: SMOKING LAD: Dueled through smart fractions of :21 4/5 and :44 4/5 and drew off in the stretch

to break his maiden by four lengths. Right back versus winners.

LONGSHOT: DOUBLE CANDI: Just didn’t fire in her first attempt versus winners. Willing to give her the benefit of the

doubt; try again at a price.

PHILADELPHIA

ADHAM: Got caught in a three-way battle for the lead and held on well for a mid-pack finish at 1 1/8 miles on

the grass. May shake loose back vs. similar.

ERNABEL: Finished second in return prep race after a nine-month layoff and should be difficult to deny next time out.

FLIGHT: Got hooked in a two-length-gap speed duel with the rabbit entry-mate of the 1-2 favorite and still managed

to hold on well for third in a good effort. Must respect in next.

MANHATTAN MINER: Battled for the lead with the 2-1 favorite and held on well for second after her early challenger

tired badly. Should win off the claim by Lake.

MELLALUKA: Ran late for a non-threatening fourth at 47-1 in what was a long odds prep race following a long layoff.

Worth a look in second race off the layoff.

PICKETY WITCH: May have needed a race in return from a four-month layoff. Worth another shot vs. cheapies in

second race back.

ROCKY ROAN: Got caught in a two-length-gap duel for the lead and managed to hold on for second after early

challenger tired to last. Expect another good effort next time.

SALTY PUNCH: Stumbled and lost the rider at the start last time out. Possible overlay next time as a result.

4STARSPECIAL: DANCEINTHEVALLEY: Broke slowest in an eight-horse field and then rushed up to the lead

and outran 22-1 odds for the victory as much the best in the race. Likely repeater vs. tougher.

LONGSHOT: GUERDON: Broke slowest at the back of a 10-horse field and did well to run fifth, less than two lengths

out of third. Can win with a clean break.
