Rachel Alexandra gains paddock time

Lexington, KY (Sports Network) - Tuesday was another important day in the continued recovery from surgery for former Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra.

As reported on the Stonestreet Farm website, the 2009 Horse of the Year "enjoyed her liberty in a paddock for two hours. Her time in the paddock will gradually increase each day."

The 7-year-old mare had an abscess drained on March 7 which followed abdominal surgery performed on Feb. 13 at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital. All this came after she foaled a filly on Tuesday, Feb. 12.
