Palace Malice returned to Belmont Park

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Elmont, NY (Sports Network) - Kentucky Derby-pacesetter Palace Malice has been returned to the Belmont Park barn of his trainer Todd Pletcher. The 3-year- old, owned by Dogwood Stable, finished 12th in the 139th Run for the Roses.

The colt set the pace in the 1 1/4-mile Derby after wearing blinkers for the first time.

"In hindsight adding the blinkers was a mistake," said Cot Campbell Monday morning. "We had no idea they would make him so sharp - he had worked in them just fine."

Campbell said that Palace Malice, second in the Blue Grass Stakes, will be rested for six weeks.

"Palace Malice has been hard at it now and deserves a break. We'll re-group and figure out where to run next - although there is no rush," Campbell explained.

The 3-year-old has one win in seven lifetime starts and $271,135. He was third in the Risen Star Stakes and seventh in the Louisiana Derby.
