Nine 3-year-olds entered for Saturday's Preakness

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - The 138th Preakness Stakes, the middle jewel of racing's Triple Crown, will have a field of nine after entries were taken Wednesday morning. The Preakness post position draw will be held at 6 p.m. (ET).

Kentucky Derby winner Orb had his first look at the Pimlico main track Wednesday since arriving on Monday. The colt jogged once around the racetrack with exercise rider Jenn Patterson.

"Everything was really good. He turned and jogged the wrong way. He was moving really well and full of energy. He appears to be settled in back here and I'm pleased with what I see," said Orb's trainer Shug McGaughey.

The 3-year-old is owned by Stuart Janney III and Phipps Stable, and will again have Joel Rosario riding two weeks after the pair won the Run for the Roses.

"His work at Belmont on Monday was something I had never seen, maybe before -- the way he finished up with very little urging, if any; the way he was striding out and the way he was holding his leads," McGaughey noted. "He's sure come a long ways since the Florida Derby. I think there's more there, but he's got to tell us that. I can't wait to run him on Saturday afternoon and, maybe we'll see something special."

Joinig Orb in the Preakness field will be Departing, Goldencents, Govenor Charlie, Itsmyluckyday, Mylute, Oxbow, Titletown Five and Will Take Charge.
