Tiz Miz Sue captures Ogden Phipps

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Elmont, NY (Sports Network) - Tiz Miz Sue, ridden by Joe Rocco Jr., came from off the pace to win Monday's $400,000 Ogden Phipps Handicap at Belmont Park.

Trained by Steve Hobby, Tiz Miz Sue, the 4-1 co-second pick in the six-horse field, raced off the pace that was being set by even-money favorite Joyful Victory and Authenticity in the 1 1/16-mile stakes. Running third up the backstretch was last year's Kentucky Oaks winner Believe You Can.

Joyful Victory dropped off the pace on the final turn leaving Authenticity alone on the lead. Tiz Miz Sue came off the turn into the middle of the stretch and drew even with Authenticity with a furlong to run.

Owned by Cresran LLC, Tiz Miz Sue took the lead with 200 yards to go. The 6-year-old mare was able to hold off Authenticity and post a half-length victory.

Centring rallied to finish third followed by Disposablepleasure, Joyful Victory and Believe You Can.

The time for the Phipps Handicap was 1:40.81 on a fast track.

Tiz Miz Sue went over the $1 million mark in career earnings with the $240,000 she won in the Memorial Day stakes. The mare notched her eighth career victory in 32 starts and has banked $1,129,709.

Tiz Miz Sue was coming off a second to On Fire Baby in Oaklawn Park's Apple Blossom. On March 16 she won the Azeri at Oaklawn which came four weeks after a third-place finish in the Bayakoa at the Arkansas track.

Tiz Miz Sue returned $10.80, $5.30 and $3.80. Authenticity paid $7.00 and $4.00, and Centring paid $6.20 to show.
