HORSES TO WATCH

By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB

SARATOGA

TASSINAIA: Three year old filly showed much improved speed last out, leading from the start to the top of the lane, tired in the lane to finish fourth about 10 lengths off the leader, may have needed that race and a move to the turf could be in order.

NAUGHTYNAUGHTYGIRL: Was away in last in her debut last out, came wide into the turn while racing in fifth and finished up ok getting beat about three lengths at 6-1; wants more ground and will be tough right back for sharp barn.

DUST EM MICK: Three year old filly has proved now that she doesn’t handle the dirt very well, here two turf races are solid and move back to that surface off a poor effort could be the key to a solid price, tab.

BARGAINING TABLE: Didn’t run that bad last out against $25k claimers over the main track in an off the turf race, was working well on the turf prior to this race and should be all set for a move back to the lawn with $25k maiden claimers, don’t dismiss.

TUMMEL: Was bet down late last out to favoritism, moved into contention off a two way duel through sharp fractions but just couldn’t get by the tough wire to wire winner, was claimed out of that race and fits with slightly better, stay close.

VOLCANO RUN: Was outrun some early on when turning back into a turf sprint, started to move into the lane and finished well to just miss by a head in a sharp time, was claimed out of that race and handles many distances.

CLOSET E: Made his second career start last out and his first over the turf, showed the way early on through moderate splits but tired some in the lane to finish fifth at 19-1; has some bottom under him now and should be given another look at long odds.

DREAMING OF CARA: Was away near the back of the pack last out against NW1X allowance company, started to move into the lane but couldn’t do any better than fourth about two lengths off the lead through a solid final quarter, can hit the exotics at long odds with similar.

I’M WIDE AWAKE: Three year old gelding showed some ability in California before shipped in here, was an even fifth in a turf sprint stakes two back and then followed that up with another sixth place finish when dropped into an optional claimer, was claimed by the Jacobson barn and could prove tough right back.

JAN’S PERFECT STAR: Was horrible two back going to the lead and stopping badly getting beat 20 lengths, turned back slightly last out, was sent right to the lead and never looked back scoring by more than two lengths in a good time, can get another one right back.

WEAVE: Well bred runner trailed the field early on in 10th behind decent splits, was still racing well back past the ¾ mark, started a four wide move into the lane and finished up well for fourth at 12-1; should improve for the Motion barn and with that race under her belt.

BEST BET: RADIANT: Well bred filly from the Bill Mott barn was sent off at 4-1 in her debut, she was outrun some while wide behind sharp early splits, moved into fourth at the top of the lane but wasn’t able to get to the top three finishing about 10 lengths behind the runaway winner, should improve off that effort and turf is an option as well.

LONGSHOT: SOUL SAFARI: Didn’t get the best of trips last out as she was very rank early on, was still fighting the rider most of the way and then raced greenly, her odds will be right back so give her another shot.

MONMOUTH PARK

PUDDY DE LUCA: Seven year old mare was sharp last out scoring off a four month layoff against $5k beaten claimers, moved up to face off against open $7k claimers, was outrun early on and checked in fourth, could bounce off that effort at a decent price, off the claim.

HALLELUJAH HIGH: Two year old gelding from the powerful Todd Pletcher barn ran for the first time back in July, showed speed but tired to finish a well beaten fourth, shipped in here for his last start, pressed the pace three wide but couldn’t go with the leaders checking in third late, stay close.

CADENCE KING: Seven year old gelding was sent off at 40-1 last out when adding blinkers, broke from the rail, but dropped back to trail the field for the first half mile, started to gain into the lane and finished well for fourth, should improve next out and offers value with $5k beaten claimers right back.

DEBONAIR LAD: Was off since a wire to wire win against NW2L $5k claimers at Pimlico, moved up to face NW3L claimers last out, set the pace from the start and past the ¾ mark but tired in the lane like a horse that needed that race, must respect right back for shrewd barn.

NAUSET BEACH: Ran an improved race in his second start when stretching out in distance checking in third after getting into second at the top of the lane, should continue to improve and a move to the grass could be in order.

BEST BET: FAIRY CAT: Four year old colt was chasing the pace three wide early on behind sharp fractions, couldn’t go with the leaders in the lane and checked in sixth, respect this horse with the move back to the dirt next out, follow off the claim by the Ness barn.

LONGSHOT: UNPRECEDENTED: Six year old gelding stretched back out in distance last out, raced in ninth and last early on behind moderate early fractions and closed well to finish fourth as the pace was heating up at 17-1; follow right back with similar at a square price.
