Clubhouse Ride returns in Brubaker

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Del Mar, CA (Sports Network) - Clubhouse Ride, winner of the Californian, will make his next start Saturday in the one-mile $90,000 Harry F. Brubaker Stakes at Del Mar.

Trained by Craig Lewis, the 5-year-old has been away from the races after tests revealed poor blood cell count.

Clubhouse Ride, owned by Six-S Racing Stable and Nikolas Petralia, will be ridden by Garrett Gomez on Saturday from post 4 in the nine-horse field over Del Mar's synthetic main track.

The chestnut horse finished last, nine-lengths behind winner Kettle Corn, in the six-horse San Diego Handicap at Del Mar on July 27. Clubhouse Ride won the Californian on June 1 at Hollywood Park after runner-up finishes behind Game On Dude in the San Antonio, Santa Anita Handicap and Charles Town Classic. He was fourth to Game On Dude in the Hollywood Gold Cup on July 6.

With just under $1 million in earnings, Clubhouse Ride has four wins in 30 lifetime starts.

Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert will start a pair of 4-year-olds in the Brubaker, Californian runner-up Liaison and Sky Kingdom.

Liaison will be ridden by Martin Garcia from the far outside post and Sky Kingdom will break from post 7 with Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith. Garcia filled in for Smith last Sunday to win the Pacific Classic aboard Game On Dude while Smith won the Personal Ensign Handicap at Saratoga with Royal Delta.

Here is the complete field from the rail out: Summer Hit, Edwin Maldonado; Wilkinson, Martin Pedroza; Soi Phet, Irving Orozco; Clubhouse Ride, Garrett Gomez; Lucky Primo, Joe Talamo; Batti Man, Brice Blanc; Sky Kingdom, Mike Smith; Hawk's Eyes, Victor Espinoza and Liaison, Martin Garcia.

Post-time for the Brubaker will be approximately 7:10 p.m. (ET).
