Boisterous back at Belmont for Bowling Green

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Elmont, NY (Sports Network) - Boisterous is back at the track where he has enjoyed much success with his start Saturday in the $250,000 Bowling Green Handicap at Belmont Park for the track's opening card of its fall meeting.

Trained by Shug McGaughey, Boisterous has drawn the inside post in the six- horse field and will again be ridden by Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez.

Boisterous, owned by Phipps Stable, is making his first start in the 1 1/4- mile Bowling Green, but won at Belmont Park in July by posting a 2 1/4-length victory in the Man o'War Stakes. The 6-year-old also has two wins apiece in the Red Smith Handicap and Knickerbocker Stakes at Belmont.

This year, Boisterous finished second to Successful Dan in the Ben Ali at Keeneland over the track's synthetic main surface. He came back with consecutive wins in the Monmouth Stakes and Man o'War, but finished eighth as the 19-10 favorite behind Big Blue Kitten in Saratoga's Sword Dancer.

Boisterous has earned $1,299,625 with 11 wins in 26 career starts.

From the rail out here is the field for the Bowling Green: Boisterous, John Velazquez; Quick Casablanca, Luis Saez; London Lane, Jose Ortiz; Hyper, Javier Castellano; Farhaan, Junior Alvarado and Finnegans Wake, Cornelio Velasquez.

The Bowling Green has a scheduled post-time of 4:45 p.m. (ET).
