Louisville, KY (SportsNetwork.com) - A pair of probable starters for the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic put in workouts Tuesday at Churchill Downs. Taking to the track were Travers winner Will Take Charge and defending Classic champ Fort Larned.
Trained by D. Wayne Lukas, Will Take Charge went five furlongs over a fast track in 1:00.40 and Fort Larned, trained by Ian Wilkes, worked four furlongs in 49 seconds.
Will Take Charge won the Pennsylvania Derby in his last start, coming four weeks after capturing the Travers. This year the 3-year-old colt has won four of nine starts for better than $1.7 million and has banked $1,827,371 in his 13 race career.
Fort Larned won the Homecoming Classic last month at Churchill, giving him $4,171,322 in lifetime earnings.
His only other win this year came in the Stephen Foster at Churchill back on June 15.
