HORSES TO WATCH

By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB

CALDER

BOY OF SUMMER: Has really been overmatched versus stakes company in his last four attempts since recording a sharp optional claiming tally in June. Stops, drops and pops.

JAY EYE SEE: Has never been a fan of a sloppy track, so willing to excuse disappointing fourth at low odds in early September. Sitting on go.

MERGIN’ MIKE: Tired to finish fifth in his debut, but has turned in two solid efforts on dirt and turf since. Son of Consolidator is on his way.

SINGMETOTHEMOON: Keeps on knocking on the door, regardless of the surface. It’s only a matter of time folks.

WE’RE ALL SET: Broke through in his fourth career attempt, then was immediately tested for class with a well-beaten third at 16-1 in the In Reality. From the William Kaplan barn.

YOU ES OH CLUB: Has some sneaky form--maybe a return to grass will wake him up. Certainly worth a look at a very big price.

BEST BET: LIZARD’S REPENT: Has done very little wrong in his last three attempts, including a runaway win off a break in August and a third-place finish at 12-1 last time. Looking good versus $6k claimers.

LONGSHOT: DREAM FOR DEAN: Followed her 17-1 upset maiden win at 10th asking with a solid third at 36-1 in her first try versus winners. Never been better.

NO. CALIFORNIA

ANCIENT ARTIFACT: Sharp claim for $4k in June continues to produce as she rises up the ladder for current connections. Hard-knocking mare.

GAEL MANIA: Tough beat in latest for this speedster at Fresno. Overdue to get his picture taken.

HI CHOOCH: SoCal invader ate these for breakfast in his local debut while returning from February layoff. Makes it two straight.

MISS NIKKI J: Has followed a narrow upset at 12-1 in August with three straight solid performances without getting her picture taken. Like her chances versus similar.

OMAR: SoCal shipper has attracted some attention in his morning workouts at Golden Gate. Can fire fresh off January layoff.

SOCIETY GEM: Maiden of 16 starts has gotten very close to getting it done in two out of her last four tries. Not exactly facing any monsters.

SWISS GAME: Dangerous front runner snapped a lengthy losing streak at Stockton in late September, then performed well when dueling for command in recent third. Hate the player, don’t hate the game.

TEBOWS BIG PLAY: Turned in a flat fourth when tried on dirt for the first time at Fresno. Gets back on track over preferred turf/synthetic at Golden Gate.

BEST BET: RED RACHEL: Sat out for a bit, but continues to play at a high level for Hall of Fame barn. Not worth trying to beat.

LONGSHOT: HASTY COURT: Rounding into form nicely since returning from lengthy layoff. Encouraging fourth at 34-1 while making only second start since October 2010.
