Hiccup in training schedule for Wise Dan

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Lexington, KY (SportsNetwork.com) - Rain forced a change in training plans Thursday for Horse of the Year Wise Dan

Heavy rain overnight and Thursday morning canceled turf training at Keeneland and had Wise Dan exercise on the synthetic main track.

"It will depend on the weather, but I may work him tomorrow or Saturday," trainer Charles LoPresti said. "The racing office has said I can work on the turf any day I want, and I have that option to work him on the main track like I did last year before the Breeders' Cup."

Owned by Morton Fink, the 6-year-old gelding finished second on Oct. 5 in the Shadwell Turf Mile at Keeneland after the race was moved off the turf due to heavy rain. With John Velazquez in the saddle. Wise Dan had his nine-race win streak snapped when he finished 1 1/4 lengths behind Silver Max in the reconfigured 1 1/16-mile stakes.

"He was just a little mad after that race," LoPresti said. "But he is doing great and training well and I couldn't be any happier with him."

With five wins in six starts this year, Wise Dan overall has won 18 of 26 races for $5,193,610.

This year, Wise Dan won his second consecutive Fourstardave Handicap at Saratoga as well as his second straight Woodbine Mile. He won the Firecracker Handicap at Churchill Downs on June 29 after beginning 2013 with wins in the Maker's 46 Mile and Woodford Reserve Turf Classic.
