Injury forces Dullahan into retirement

Lexington, KY (SportsNetwork.com) - Former Pacific Classic winner Dullahan has been retired with a tendon injury. Donegal Racing made the announcement Monday afternoon.

Trained by Dale Romans, Dullahan won just three races in 18 career starts, with each win coming in a stakes race. As a 2-year-old he won the Breeders' Futurity at Keeneland and returned to the track the following spring to capture the Blue Grass Stakes.

After a third-place finish in the 138th Kentucky Derby, Dullahan finished seventh in the Belmont Stakes. He then finished fifth in the Haskell Invitational before recording his biggest and last victory in the Pacific Classic at Del Mar over Game On Dude.

The colt failed to reach the winner's circle in his final six starts, including an eighth in this year's Pacific Classic. He finishes his career with $1,735,901.

"Dullahan is the most spectacular looking horse Donegal has campaigned ... the likes of Tiznow and Candy Ride," Donegal Racing managing owner Jerry Crawford tweeted.

The 4-year-old will spend time at WinStar Farm to recover from the injury.
