Arcadia, CA (Sports Network) - Paynter, second in the Awesome Again Stakes, had a workout Monday at Santa Anita that greatly pleased trainer Bob Baffert.
"Paynter looked like a monster working today. Back to his top form," Baffert said on Twitter.
The 4-year-old colt, owned by Zayat Stables, worked five furlongs in 1:00 on a fast track. The colt is training for a possible start in the Breeders' Cup on at Santa Anita.
Paynter was second in the San Diego Handicap to Kettle Corn at Del Mar on July 27 and shipped to Saratoga for the Woodward Stakes on Aug. 31 where he finished fifth and last as the 3-2 favorite behind Alpha.
The colt, winner of last year's Haskell, has won four of 10 career starts for $1,101,924.
