Injured Borel on shelf for month

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Lexington, KY (SportsNetwork.com) - Hall of Fame jockey Calvin Borel will be sidelined about a month after suffering an injury Wednesday at Keeneland.

Borel was injured in a fall during Wednesday's sixth race while riding Sonic Dancer.

"He has a broken fibula but no concussion," Borel's agent Jerry Hissam said. "He came home last night and is sore this morning, and it looks like he will be out three to four weeks. Hopefully he can make the last three or four days of the Churchill Downs meet that ends Nov. 30."

The stewards ruled the race a no contest to ensure the safety of the horses and riders after paramedics were unable to immediately remove Borel from the course a short distance beyond the finish line.

Sonic Dancer, who fractured his right front cannon bone shortly after the start of the 1 1/16-mile race, was vanned off the track and later euthanized.
