Breeders' Cup pre-entries revealed for 30th edition

Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Pre-entries for the 14 Breeders' Cup World Championship races have been announced with a total of 172 horses.

The 30th Breeders' Cup will be held for the second straight year at Santa Anita Park with five races set for Friday, Nov. 1 and nine on Saturday, Nov. 2.

The $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic received 13 pre-entered horses topped by defending winner Fort Larned and top rated thoroughbred Game On Dude. Joining those two are Flat Out, Woodward winner Alpha, last year's runner-up Mucho Macho Man, Belmont Stakes champ Palace Malice, Travers winner Will Take Charge, Graydar, Ron the Greek, Paynter, Last Gunfighter, Moreno, Planteur and Declaration of War.

Reigning Horse of the Year Wise Dan is back to defend the Mile on the turf. He will be joined by 13 challengers.

Two-time defending Distaff (formerly Ladies' Classic) winner Royal Delta is one of only six pre-entered for the 1 1/8-mile race. She will be joined by Alabama winner Princess of Sylmar, last year's Juvenile Fillies champ Beholder, Authenticity, Close Hatches and Street Girl.

Other horses returning to defend their crowns are Mizdirection in the Turf Sprint, Little Mike, Turf; Groupie Doll, Filly & Mare Sprint and Trinniberg, Sprint.

Each Breeders' Cup race will have a maximum of 14 horses and wagering interests with the exception of the Dirt Mile, which is limited to 12 starters.
