Goldencents to return in 2014

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile winner Goldencents will return to race as a 4-year-old. Trainer Doug O'Neill sent a tweet on Wednesday.

"We are happy to report that the owners of Goldencents have informed us that he will run in his four year old year! It will be fun to have him in the barn for another year!!"

Goldencents, partly owned by Rick Pitino, won the Dirt Mile last Friday at Santa Anita as the 7-2 second choice. Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, he defeated Golden Ticket by 2 3/4 lengths by setting the pace the entire distance.

The 3-year-old colt won the Sham Stakes and Santa Anita Derby before finishing 17th in the Kentucky Derby. He was fifth in the Preakness and then posted three straight second-place finishes in the Bing Crosby, Pat O'Brien and Santa Anita Sprint Championship Stakes.

In 12 career starts he has five wins and four seconds for $1.99 million.
