Ria Antonia gains Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies win

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Longshot Ria Antonia was declared the winner of Saturday's $2 million Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies after She's A Tiger was disqualified to begin the second day of the 30th World Championships at Santa Anita Park.

Trained by Jeremiah Englehart and ridden by Javier Castellano, Ria Antonia, a 32-1 longshot in the 10-horse field, caught front runner She's A Tiger coming to the wire in the 1 1/16-mile race.

She's A Tiger came out to bump Ria Antonia nearing the finish and put her nose on the wire first. Rosalind finished third and Sweet Reason was fourth. Trainer Bob Baffert's Secret Compass was injured and vanned off.

An objection and inquiry followed. The stewards disqualified She's A Tiger and placed her second behind Ria Antonia.

The time for the Juvenile Fillies was 1:43.02 on a fast track.

Ria Antonia, a daughter of Rockport Harbor, earned $1.1 million with the victory. The 2-year-old filly notched her second win in five starts and now has earnings of $1,156,140.

The filly had her first three starts at Woodbine in Toronto and was coming off a fourth at Belmont Park in the Frizette Stakes.

Ria Antonia returned $66.60, $29.80 and $17.40. She's A Tiger paid $6.40 and $4.80, Rosalind paid $6.80 to show.
