Magician rallies to win Breeders' Cup Turf

Arcadia, CA (SportsNetwork.com) - Irish thoroughbred Magician rallied through the stretch to capture Saturday's $3 million Breeders' Cup Turf at Santa Anita Park. Ridden by Ryan Moore, Magician ran the 1 1/2 miles in 2:23.23 on a firm course.

Trained by Aidan O'Brien, Magician was racing well off the lead and was able to make up multiple lengths the final furlong. He ran down The Fugue in the final yards and posted a half-length win over the favorite.

Indy Point finished third in the 12-horse field followed by Point of Entry, Vagabond Shoes, Twilight Eclipse, 2012 winner Little Mike, Big Blue Kitten, Real Solution, Skyring, Teaks North and Tale of a Champion.

Owned by Susan Magnier, Derrick Smith and Michael Tabor, Magician earned $1.6 million. The 3-year-old colt has banked nearly $2 million in eight starts with four wins.

Magician returned $27.00, $11.80 and $7.00. The Fugue paid $4.40 and $3.00, and Indy Point paid $5.40 to show.
