Top two from Remsen headed to Florida

Ozone Park, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Remsen Stakes winner Honor Code and runner-up Cairo Prince both came out of the 1 1/8-mile stakes in good shape and will spend the winter in Florida.

"He's going to be here in Florida; we'll watch him and see how he's doing," trainer Shug McGaughey said from Florida concerning Honor Code. "I've got nothing specific in my head other than he'll start when and where he tells us."

Owned by Lane's End Racing and Dell Ridge Farm, Honor Code overcame a stumble at the start to defeat Cairo Prince by a nose as the 4-5 favorite in the eight-horse field.

"What impressed me the most was how he handled the day; he shipped over (from Belmont Park) well and broke a lot better," said McGaughey. "They went three- quarters in 1:17 but he was right there. He made the lead, lost it and then refocused. They went the last part in 11 and change and he beat a very nice horse (Cairo Prince) who'd run twice since Honor Code's last race."

McGaughey, who saddled Orb to win this year's Kentucky Derby, will have Honor Code stabled at Payson Park Thoroughbred Training Center in preparation for the 2014 Triple Crown races.

"He's going to run that far. We just have to figure out how he wants to do it," McGaughey said of the Triple Crown distances.

Cairo Prince, the 8-5 second pick Saturday, is trained by Kiaran McLaughlin and will leave for the Sunshine State in a few days.

"Honor Code is a nice horse, but we were giving him six pounds and to lose by a nose, we feel like we have the best horse right now. Moving forward, we'll see," McLaughlin said.
