HORSES TO WATCH
By: AMERICAN TURF CLUB
FAIR GROUNDS
ALEX’S TOP CAT: Two year old
gelding was coming off an August layoff last out, was bumped hard at the start,
took back to race in fourth but then ran on well to finish a clear second
behind the even money wire to wire winning favorite at 21-1; all set now with
NW2L $15k statebred claimers.
BABEFROMTHEGITGO: Two year old filly
was sent off at 12-1 in her career debut last out, had no early speed racing in
8th, angled out into the lane and ran on well to finish third,
should improve off that effort.
MORE THAN CLASSIC: Was bumped at the
start last out, was urged while racing on the inside and ran on well to get up
for second to the wire to wire winner in an off the turf race, a move back to
the turf could be the answer.
SILVER WOOD: Two year old by
Badge of Silver made his debut against $12.5k claimers last out, was outrun
early on racing in 10th, had some trouble moving into the far turn
but recovered and ran on well to finish third at 27-1, could prove tough right
back.
TALE OF A GOLFER: Eight year old
gelding was returning from an August layoff last out, was bumped from both
sides at the start, raced in sixth early on, made a good move to get into third
but tired a bit late to finish a solid fourth, all set now with NW2L $7.5k
claimers.
BEST BET: JO JO’S COMET: Three year old gelding
was returning from a June layoff, tried the dirt for the first time in an off
the turf race, showed good speed into the lane but had to settle for second
late, likes the turf and fits well on either surface, stay close.
LONGSHOT: PRIME CUVEE: Four year old gelding was
coming off a September layoff but stayed in the race despite it coming off the
turf, showed good speed to the top of the lane but tired to finish sixth, got
the needed conditioning and is ready for a move back to the turf.
TURF PARADISE
COCONINO: Loves this turf
course and was making her third start back off a June layoff, chased the pace
early on and was still there to the top of the lane but tired to finish sixth,
is better when she can come from off the pace, tab.
ERNA JILLION: Two year old
gelding made his debut against $5k claimers last out, came out of the gate
running, set a sharp pressured pace into the lane but came up ¾’s of a length
short to the 1-2 favorite, keys your exotics next out.
KING OF THE SKY: Five year old
gelding moved back to the turf last out, opened up a big lead down the
backside, was still there into the lane but tired to finish third late; however
that was a solid bounce back effort so follow.
PLATINUM RULES: Four year old filly
came out of the gate running last out, set a sharp pace from the start and into
the lane but came up a half-length short at 10-1, sharp now.
SERGE TO PARADISE: Four year old
gelding was away in fourth early on, made a good move to get into second at the
top of the lane but tired late to finish third behind the two favorites at
14-1, respect.
BEST BET: BETTER TO BE LUCKY: Four year old filly
was coming off an August layoff last out when shipping in from Emerald Downs,
broke from the rail, was bumped at the start, wasn’t rushed up into contention
and closed well to finish a solid second to the wire to wire favored winner at
15-1; tab.
LONGSHOT: ZURIZIP: Three year old gelding came
out running, pressed the early pace, took over after a half mile in 44:4 but
couldn’t go with the leaders late tiring to finish third at 12-1; offers value
right back.
