The $50,000 starter allowance races will be conducted on the turf at one-mile. The Valley Lass is for fillies and mares and the Auld Lang Syne is for 3-year- olds & up. Hollywood Park opened on June 10, 1938 and Valley Lass, under jockey Silvio Coucci, became the first horse to win a race at the track. The 2-year-old California bred filly paid $4.60 to win and completed five furlongs in 1:00 1/5.
