Maryland Jockey Club initiates new fundraising concept

By: SPORTS NETWORK

Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - The Maryland Jockey Club announced Wednesday the implementation of a new fundraising concept built around the Black-Eyed Susan Stakes at Pimlico Race Course.

"For the last four years, Pimlico has celebrated and supported the empowerment of women by bringing that commitment to light on Black-Eyed Susan Day," said Maryland Jockey Club president Tom Chuckas. "Next year's Black-Eyed Susan Day will prove to be an important evolution of this celebration, serving as our platform to honor the spirit and strength of women."

A year-round fundraising concept, Empowerment 360, will support women through mentoring workshops with multiple workshops throughout the year leading up to Black-Eyed Susan Day. The 1 1/8-mile stakes for 3-year-old fillies is held the day before the Preakness Stakes.

"This is an opportunity to recruit and engage a younger audience by making a positive impact in the community," added Chuckas. "We are going to pick a different charity each year in hopes of broadening the brand, making the event 'The Ultimate Girls Day Out'."
