Change to Palace Malice's training

Aiken, SC (SportsNetwork.com) - Six days a week training for Belmont Stakes winner Palace Malice is now the schedule for the colt. Owner Dogwood Stable announced on its website that the soon to turn 4-year-old is having his training routine tightened.

"The distance of his gallops is being increased gradually from a mile and an eighth to a mile and three-eighths, and he will have one three-eighths of a mile breeze on January 4, prior to departing for Florida on January 7," Dogwood president Cot Campbell said.

Palace Malice is headed for trainer Todd Pletcher's barn at Palm Meadows near Gulfstream Park. The winner of the Jim Dandy Stakes will make his 2014 debut on March 29 in the $400,000 New Orleans Handicap at Fair Grounds.

"This colt is a horse of easy temperament. However, he is a big, strapping three-year-old race horse and on a cold morning, he can be a bit of a handful. Great credit goes to Gene Tucker who rides him daily. He could not be in better hands," Campbell said.

The colt finished his 2013 season with a sixth-place finish to Mucho Macho Man in the Breeders' Cup Classic on Nov. 2. In his first race versus older horses he was second to Ron the Greek in the Jockey Club Gold Cup.

For the year, Palace Malice won two of 10 starts for $1,419,135.
