By: SPORTS NETWORK

Ozone Park, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Surgery has been scheduled for Thursday on the broken ankle of jockey Junior Alvarado. The rider suffered the injury Sunday in the starting gate just before the $100,000 East View Stakes at Aqueduct Racetrack.

Alvarado was aboard Miss Narcissist when she flipped and unseated the jockey. He broke his left ankle because of the incident and will be out approximately three months.

The 27-year-old Alvarado is currently 10th in the nation in earnings with $12,338,908 and 188 wins. He was aboard Flat Out when the 7-year-old won the Cigar Mile at Aqueduct on Nov. 30. The pair also won this year's Suburban and Westchester Handicaps.
